That's why at Songwei we insist on running Okuma parts on system-level test benches. We put spindle drives, servo drives and power modules together to simulate real-world conditions and run them through the entire system environment. That's how we can really find problems and avoid those "single points of failure” that can cause headaches. Some customers send in their drives for testing, and instead of just plugging them in and testing them, we run them for a couple of hours in the actual logic of the machine to make sure they're really stable.
Why Okuma Test Stands Are Essential
Okuma CNC systems are used in a wide range of industries including automotive parts, aerospace, electronics manufacturing, heavy machining and more. It has a powerful drive, but also a high level of complexity. Unlike some brands, where individual drives can be tested in isolation to see what's wrong, Okuma has to do the whole package to validate the linkage.
* Complete system verification - power supply, spindle drive and servo drive run together to avoid missing problems by only testing the unit parts.
* High-precision load checking - testing their performance under real machining loads, rather than no-load conditions. For example, we will simulate high-speed startups, emergency stops and prolonged loads in real cutting, so that problems are exposed in advance.
* Safe and controllable - to avoid re-damaging the drive during testing. All test benches are equipped with protection circuits, which will automatically cut off in case of abnormality, protecting both the equipment and the engineers.
* European standard process - to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the test bench, all test interfaces are designed according to international standards, which can be adapted to different generations of Okuma parts.
In this way, repair engineers and factories can locate faults faster and minimize risks when returning to service or maintenance. Many customers have reported that our tested drives are ready to run at once when they are installed back in the machine, avoiding the trouble of having to return to the machine for repair.
Songwei's Okuma Test Bench Models
1. Okuma U100L Test Bench
Test Range:
* MIV series spindle drives
* MIV series servo drives
* MPS series power supplies
Specialized for MIV drive series. We often encounter customer feedback: "No load is fine, why is it reported as an error when the machine is on?” --Running a loaded simulation with the U100L test bench can uncover these problems in advance. The power supply (MPS) will also be run simultaneously to avoid the whole drive reporting errors due to minor problems with the power supply.
2. Okuma OSP-P300MA Test Bench
Test Range:
* MDU series spindle drive
* MDU series servo drives
* PSU series power supplies
* PSDUC 3-axis integrated drives
* MDU 3-axis integrated drives
This is our most used multi-axis integrated test bench. Many factory machines have four, five or more axes, and the OSP-P300MA can run all three drives at once to simulate their synergy in actual machining. We will let the spindle and servo run high-speed cutting simulation together to test whether they remain synchronized under long-time load, to avoid the situation of "one axis falling behind” in the actual production.
3. Okuma OSP-7000 Test Bench
Test Range:
* VAC5 series spindle drives
* BLIV series servo drives
* BLII series servo drives
Mainly for VAC and BL series drives. These drives are very powerful in high-torque machining, but also sensitive. We pay special attention during testing:
* Whether there is a risk of overcurrent
* Whether the multiple axes are synchronized
* Whether the spindle performance fluctuates under high loads
By simulating these scenarios in advance, customers can take back their drives and put them directly on the production line without having to worry about returning them for repair.
More Than Okuma: Our More Comprehensive Testing Capabilities
While Okuma is one of our focuses, Songwei's test bench covers a wider range:
*
Fanuc test benches - commonly used machine tool controllers for models 0i-MA, 0i-MC, MF, and more.
*
Mitsubishi test benches - including 64, M70, M80, adapted to different generations of servo and spindle drives, especially in Asia.
Many of our customers have multiple brands of equipment at the same time, and by centralizing the testing with us, they can solve the problem once and for all, without having to go back and forth between different service providers.
Conclusion
Okuma's system architecture dictates that it must be tested as a whole. If a drive is tested separately, it may look fine, but if it is installed in the machine, it may still be wrong. Songwei's Okuma test bench solves this problem by running spindle drives, servo drives and power modules together to ensure they work together under real working conditions.
By doing this, customers can avoid repeated disassembly and assembly, reduce unplanned downtime, and also extend the life of their equipment and increase production capacity. We've helped a number of customers from Europe and Asia take their repair success and equipment stability to the next level.
