* One of the most common traps: Incorrect spindle parameters
You may not believe it, but the cause of many alarm 750 cases is not in the hardware at all. It is in the parameters. Fanuc repair documents specifically mention that "the serial spindle parameters do not meet the startup conditions." In the system, this usually means checking the spindle-related parameters in the 4000 series.
When is this problem most likely to happen? After replacing the CNC system, replacing the spindle amplifier, restoring a parameter backup, replacing the spindle motor, modifying the machine, or when somebody has carelessly changed the spindle parameters.
Here is a very typical example. An old machine has been used for many years, and nobody knows where its original parameter backup went. Later, the spindle amplifier fails and is replaced with a new one. The repair technician copies a set of parameters from another machine that "looks about the same." On the surface, the CNC models are the same, but the spindle motor, amplifier configuration, and actual operating parameters may not match at all. As soon as the machine is powered on, alarm 750 appears.
So never change the 4000-series parameters casually just to clear alarm 750. The correct way is to first identify the exact CNC model, spindle amplifier model, and spindle motor model. Then compare the parameters with the machine's original backup or the correct Fanuc parameter manual.
What if there is no original backup? You still cannot simply find a set of "same-model" parameters online and load them into the machine. Even if two machines use the same CNC system, their spindle motors, maximum speeds, and actual configurations may be different. You cannot blindly copy the parameters.
* Is the communication cable loose? Do not underestimate a connector that is not fully inserted
Another fairly common cause is a problem with the communication connection between the CNC and the spindle system. The exact hardware and communication method may vary between systems, but when checking the machine on site, you cannot avoid looking at the communication cable, fiber-optic cable, connectors, and connection status.
Sometimes the fault is so simple that you want to kick yourself. For example, the electrical cabinet was recently opened, a technician unplugged and reconnected a control board, or the spindle amplifier was replaced. The cable itself is not damaged, but one connector was not pushed in all the way. An ordinary circuit may still work with poor contact, but serial communication is different. If even one connection is unstable, the startup handshake may fail.
So if alarm 750 suddenly appears after maintenance, part replacement, or work inside the electrical cabinet, the first thing to check is the communication connection. Pay special attention to these points: Is the communication cable loose? Are the connectors firmly inserted? Is there anything wrong with the fiber-optic connection? Has the cable been crushed or pinched? Is it plugged into the correct position? Is there any dirt inside the connector? Some of these problems look very basic, but they really can be the root cause.
* If the amplifier does not wake up, it can also cause alarm 750
Alarm 750 does not mean that the spindle amplifier is faulty. But if the amplifier is not in a normal condition, the CNC certainly cannot complete the initialization of the spindle serial link.
So when checking alarm 750, do not stare only at the CNC screen. The LED lights or display information on the amplifier panel are often more useful than the alarm code itself.
For example, the CNC may show alarm 750 while the amplifier is also flashing another alarm code, or the amplifier may not have powered on normally at all. In that case, the troubleshooting direction is completely different. If the amplifier has no power, is in an abnormal state, or develops an internal fault during startup, the CNC naturally cannot establish normal communication with it.
This is also a good habit when working on the machine: Check the CNC alarm and the amplifier display together. Looking only at the three digits "750" gives you far too little information.
* The communication module on the CNC side may also have a problem
When people hear "spindle alarm," many of them automatically check the spindle side because that is where the spindle is. But alarm 750 is not necessarily a fault on the spindle side. Fanuc diagnostic information also includes the condition "CNC-side serial communication module abnormal." This means that the module responsible for serial spindle communication on the CNC side may itself be faulty.
In some configurations of the Fanuc 16, 18, 160, and 180 series, the related spindle communication module is located on the main CPU board. However, different series, hardware versions, and machine configurations are not the same. From alarm 750 alone, you cannot determine which board should be replaced.
When should you start suspecting the CNC side? If the spindle amplifier is working normally, the communication cable is good, and the spindle parameters have been checked, but diagnostic 409 clearly points to the CNC-side communication module, then move your attention to the CNC communication hardware. Otherwise, do not start removing boards blindly.
This situation is very common. The original spindle amplifier fails, so you install a new or used Fanuc spindle amplifier. As soon as you power on the machine, alarm 750 appears. Do not immediately lose your temper and say, "The newly installed amplifier is also bad!"
That is possible, but it is more likely that the hardware configuration or parameters were not restored correctly.
First, check the complete model number of the replacement amplifier. Do not just look at whether it belongs to the same series. The full model number needs to match the original one. Then confirm the CNC model, spindle motor model, and original spindle configuration. At the same time, check whether the communication connections were restored correctly and whether the spindle parameters were changed.
If you are using a refurbished or used amplifier, make sure it has gone through a complete functional test, not just a simple power-on test. A Fanuc spindle amplifier that can light up its LEDs is not necessarily able to complete serial communication and start normally.
